Franklin County Projected vs Actual Dates
A projected date is a calculation for a future sentence event. DAC uses the exact label Projected Release Date, sometimes in the incarceration summary and again at sentence level. It is not an actual-release confirmation. Consecutive terms can create sentence-level projections and a later overall projection, so one early date may not govern physical release.
An Actual Release Date records a past incarceration event. It is strongest when paired with expired incarceration or service status. Even then, inspect the full record because another sentence row, later admission, transfer, or active community-supervision status may remain. A current jail roster and an “Active Inmate” state result describe present custody, not release history.
A pretrial person at Franklin County Detention Complex has no fixed sentence-completion date. Release may depend on bond, a promise to appear, disposition, a court order, or another hold. A sentenced county-jail term is different, but its calculation may be maintained locally rather than in DAC OPI.
Find a Franklin County Projected Date
Identify the last known custodian before searching. Franklin Correctional Center is a state prison, so DAC controls its sentence record. Franklin County Detention Complex is a county jail, and DAC says OPI excludes county-jail data. - For a state prisoner, open the official DAC OPI search form. Use the offender number if known or carefully match the name and biographical fields.
- Open the individual record. Compare offender number, status, Most Recent Incarceration Summary, and every relevant sentence-history row.
- Record the exact Projected Release Date and whether it is an overall or sentence-level field. Do not substitute an eligibility or review date.
- Read Actual Release Date and service status. Active supervision can mean the person left prison but remains under state control.
- For a sentenced county-jail term, call the Franklin County Detention Complex at (919) 496-2186 and request the current calculation and controlling court order through the county or clerk route.
- For a pretrial detainee, check bond and court disposition rather than looking for a sentence projection that does not exist.

Franklin County Structured Sentencing Dates
North Carolina Structured Sentencing applies to offenses committed on or after October 1, 1994. DAC's parole-process explanation says it eliminated parole, requires service of at least 100% of the imposed minimum, and is designed around service of about 85% of the maximum before post-release supervision. The 85% phrase is context, not a universal calculator.
G.S. 15A-1340.13(d) provides that a felony prisoner must serve the minimum term. Earned time can reduce the maximum but not below that minimum. G.S. 15A-1368.2 calculates post-release dates by offense class, generally using the maximum less a specified supervision period and earned time, with special structures for certain maxima. Offense class, consecutive terms, special provisions, and credit history must be read from the actual record.

The published framework belongs beside the sentence fields, not in place of DAC's calculation.
Good-time note: Earned credit may reduce the maximum term, but it cannot cut a Structured Sentencing felony below its imposed minimum.
Why Franklin County Release Dates Move
DAC identifies several administrative and legal events that can change a projection. A date movement does not by itself reveal which event occurred. Review the sentence rows, service status, custody history, and current order, then ask the responsible agency when the public display does not explain the change.

Confirm a Franklin County Release Date
For a state record, compare the projected field with Actual Release Date, incarceration status, supervision status, and all active or future sentence rows. DAC's public-records page says release dates, admission dates, time served, sentence length, and basic conviction information are available categories within DAC scope. A narrow request is appropriate when OPI cannot resolve multiple terms.
For a county term, request the Franklin County jail's current calculation and the controlling court order. The official Detention Complex page supplies the jail contact, while the county public-records route directs police-report matters to the Sheriff's Office and gives Records@franklincountync.gov for other county requests. Court documents belong with the clerk. Use the Franklin County court directory for current procedure, and ask for an existing calculation or record rather than legal analysis.

Franklin County Jail Earned Time
Activated misdemeanor sentences use a different statutory route from Structured Sentencing felonies. G.S. 15A-1340.20(d) authorizes earned time under DAC or local rules and caps combined credit at four days per month. G.S. 148-13 authorizes DAC earned-time rules and says applicable rules are distributed to and followed by local jail administrators for sentenced jail prisoners.
Those statutes do not make a public Franklin County calculator. The exact local answer still requires the sentence, credit actually applied, controlling order, and current jail calculation. A pretrial stay is outside this sentence-credit calculation. Ask the Franklin County Detention Complex for the existing computation and confirm the judgment with the clerk.
Older Franklin County Sentence Rules
Older Fair Sentencing cases do not follow the same projection rules as modern Structured Sentencing cases. DAC says good time is generally one day of credit for one day of good behavior, initially applied and subject to removal for discipline. Qualifying merit time may also exist for extra work or emergency conditions.
Do not apply that one-for-one description to a modern term. First identify the offense date and sentencing regime, then read the OPI record and judgment. Older-law parole eligibility also is not the same as a guaranteed release date. A Commission review can yield an incomplete, suspended, denied, or conditional result, while OPI's actual-release field remains the stronger confirmation of departure from state imprisonment.
Franklin County Release-Date Channel Sweep
No single Franklin County channel covers every custody type. Use DAC OPI for state prisoners and supervisees, the jail and clerk for local sentences or pretrial cases, NC SAVAN for person-specific change alerts, and federal tools only when the federal custodian is relevant. This sweep prevents a county-jail absence from being misread as a state-prison answer.
